Australasian Fire Brigades Golf Championships
Earlier this month, Brian Rattenbury, Garry and Janet Johnson played in the 40th Australasian Fire Brigades Golf Championships held in Hobart, Tasmania, playing three championship rounds at Royal Hobart Golf Course.
Teams from each state and territory of Australia and New Zealand (9 in total) compete against each other for the coveted team trophies, as well as many competing as individuals. Garry qualified as part of the New Zealand team of 6. New Zealand finished second place behind Tasmania in both Team events. 156 Individuals played this year.
Brian Rattenbury finished Nett runner up overall and best New Zealand Nett score, receiving the Pinky Holmes Trophy. Garry and Brian play in the handicap graded sections, Janet as no longer an active brigade member or having done at least 15 years continuous service, plays in the Social Section (open handicap).
There was great elation at the prize giving when Janet was named the Social Grade Champion 2016. This was the first time a woman has won a trophy in the tournament’s history.
