Club Captains Report

Hello to all. Hope we are enjoying our golf.

NOTE; Would the men please not tee off the 13th after 9 am on Club days. These are the current rules set by the committee so please can we stick to them. Thank you.

Hi All. Well, we have the NEW CHAMPIONS for the 2019 shoot out and bragging rights went to the Sausage as he chipped closer on the day than Division two winner Colin Upson. So well done teams and players, it seemed to be a very good day and the format was well taken on board. In discussion, the split was great as handicaps were better suited and made for some fantastic golf. Division two had 5 chip offs during their play-off nine-holes so that’s what it is all about. The champs, DIVISION ONE .1st Kevin Mancer, 2nd Bing , and 3RD JR. Division two was 1ST Colin Upson over 2ND Phil Wilson and 3RD Terry Butler. SO WELL DONE LADS, GOOD TO WATCH. Thanks to the refs on the day and the BBQ cooks. Thanks to Ian Titter for running the Shoot-Out over the year. I think with the numbers involved we will be having some extra little comps during the season next year, so watch this space.

PENNANTS, yes it’s that time again. We want to get a jump on it this year so I have put up a registration of interest form in the clubhouse. Please read it and pop your name down if you are interested. Pennants will be around Feb /March 2020 and we are moving the club program around a bit so pennant players don’t have the big club competitions on Saturday and pennants on Sunday. This should work out so we will get more pennant members playing Sundays and give more golfers a chance to enter stroke and match play champs without having to commit to Saturday / Sundays for 8 weeks or so. I feel this is win / win for the club overall …watch this space….

This weekend we have the 2ball best ball mass start on the 26th, long weekend. It’s a 9am tee off so if we can all be there 8.30 am so we can sort out what tees we will be on that would be great thanks. So, grab your buddy /partner or whoever and make up a team and get ready to go. PLEASE remember it’s a mass start so don’t take off early or you won’t be in the competition. Thanks’ guys and girls.

NOTE: PLACING IS BACK TO YOUR OWN FAIRWAY ONLY!!!! THANKS

Thanks, and good golfing.

Your Club Captain Lofty.

Waitara New World

What a day for the fourth and last round of the Wednesday Top Dog. The wind was strong with a few trundlers rolling over and heading down the fairways at will, but in all it was a great day with some good golf. The overall results of the Top Dog, in third place was Colin Upson and Greg Fowler 264 net, Second was Teddy Danych and Peter Loppy 263.5 net and the winners were David Butler and Lee Mather with a net score of 261.

The winners of the day (2 ball best ball) were Phil Wilson and John Vanders 57 net, Teddy Danych and Peter Loppy 58 net, Gary Fulton and Wayne Kopu 61 net, Greg Watt and Barry Newlove 63 net, and Geoff Peters finished also with a 63 net by himself as his partner didn’t like the wind and went home.

Raffle winners, Phil Wilson, Jim Newlove, Colin Upson, Lee Mather, Dave Yates, John Rayner and Richard Crowe.

Cheers.

Pest control at Manukorihi.

The Manukorihi Golf Club is going to do more pest control on the course. We are buying some DOC approved traps for this and would like someone to look after and record what we catch. This would be something that would have to be on a weekly basis.

If you are interested, please see one of the committee or Paul Fairhurst.

50 years at Manukorihi Golf Club.

This coming Easter the Manukorihi Golf Club will have been at our current course at Wills Road for 50 years, the Club was founded in 1904. We will be looking for a subcommittee to help run the Saturday and Sunday.

We are looking at the history of the club, so if you have anything that may help us, photos, stories that will be of interest please let me know. Also, we are looking for Programme Books, we are missing a lot from 2006 to 2018.

Many Thanks.

David Butler.

Please print off the flyer and put up at your workplace.

PRO – TIP

Routines are very important, as good ones get you past the pressure !!!

Warm up Routine : Every good golfer has his or her way of loosening up before the game.

I recommend:

1. Swinging 2 clubs together in front of the window or mirror.

2. Do your Putting Drill with the 4 tees & 5 balls.

3. Chipping next, 10 short chips with the 8 Iron, then 10 with the PW.

4. Just 20 balls, 5 with an 8 Iron, 5 with a 6 Iron, 5 with your rescue.

5. The last 5 with the club that you will use from the 1st Tee. If it’s the “big dog” it would be good to know if it’s talking to you or “BARKING” at you!

You would then have an insight as to how you are playing & therefore you may want to start off with an easier club, 3 wood or rescue?

We all want to play our best & having a good Warm Up Routine is a sure way to succeed.

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
